Makeup Linked to Self-Esteem

 Makeup Linked to Self-Esteem

It is a highly debated discussion and in fact New York Times recently posted an interesting op-ed debate on whether makeup is good or bad for a woman’s self-esteem ( as quoted by birchbox.com). Makeup lovers say that they overall feel highly appreciated, confident, presentable and loved by their peers when they wear makeup. It empowers a lot of men and women and raises their self-esteem.

Makeup can actually transform a person. If used with proper tools & techniques it can be a source of extreme makeover for men and women. This is a reason that wearing makeup for most of us is now becoming a part of our daily routine. Getting your dark circles covered, pigmentation hidden or redness corrected is now considered essential steps in applying makeup.
However, for some of people it becomes obsession as one try to feel they do not look good without it. This could be a troublesome issue for many people who loose their confidence and tend to appear less-attractive when they are not wearing makeup.

In my opinion, as a makeup artist, i understand the significance of looking beautiful and the role makeup plays in it. To fit in this society and look equally good as others, one has to incorporate makeup. But only do whats needed. Applying unnecessary layers of concealer or foundation on your skin if you do not need it is in long term going to harm your skin. So, stick to the demands of your face and try to skip whatever is not needed on daily basis and put all the efforts on occasions like parties, weddings, events or date nights.

Self-esteem should be in your character, skills & abilities. Feel confident in who you are. Have fun doing makeup but do not let it feed your insecurities.

Use power of Makeup to Embrace Beauty not Judged by it!

None of us is Perfect! Yes, even the top celebrities, Miss World or any top artist. No doubt each of us are beautiful in our own sense and God has created us all Equal and for a reason. But a lot of procedures, photo shops, cosmetics etc play a role to publicize them as they do in media. Media has created definitions of "Beauty" and i am not talking about color of skin. eyes or hair. Its that flawless skin, the perfect body and facial features that they are trying to achieve in our minds.

Why has contouring your nose, highlighting your cheekbones or even sculpting your face gained so much importance in our lives? Why have we begun to think our nose is too wide, face is too-broad or under eyes are too dark? It is the perfection we are subconsciously loaded with in our minds. It also shows the significance of what "looking beautiful" means in today's world.

I would not say it is "Bad" but destructive yes it could be. Destructive to those who do not fall in their portrayed image or become too- self conscious. Most of our days go by complaining what we do not have or we might have started to notice it more. But life is too short to complain. One should understand the truth behind these so called perfect images that seem to draw attention away from reality.

Makeup should be considered as Empowerment to ones' self. Enjoy makeup to look the best of yourself but do not make it mandatory to your sense's. Do not Judge or be judged by it. Use the power of makeup to feel beautiful but dont feel beautiful just by it!

Your Lips My Lips!

  • Traditional Lipstick Technique

Like traditional method. Use a liner to line the lips, fill in using a liner to serve as a base of the lipstick followed by one lip color all over the lips.

  • Popular Ombre Lip Technique

Ombre is a recent trend in lipsticks where two or more lipstick colors are blended to create this effect. You can choose almost any color ranging from light to dark; inside-out onto the lips. the lightest being inside while the dark blending outwards reaching darkest on the corners(outline) of the lips.
  • Reverse Ombre Technique

This is opposite to Ombre Lip Technique where two or more colors are blended keeping darkest to the inner and lightest to the outside of the lips.

Basic Lip Makeup

  • Step 1: Exfoliate your Lips & put a light moisturizing balm

Gently rub Sugar Honey mixture on your lips for quick exfoliation
This will help dead cells to rub away, wash, towel dry and apply a lip balm or lip primer to moisten.

  • Step two: Line your lips with a complementary or similar Liner & Also apply it all over your lips

Whatever look you want to create, a liner is a must. Use it to draw around your lips and also apply it all over the lips for longevity.
  • Step 3: Apply the lipstick onto your entire lips

Now gradually, apply you lipstick using a brush or directly. If you want to create different affects check my other post "Your Lips My Lips".

5 Essentials to Flawless Makeup

1. Exfoliate & Moisturize
Exfoliation is most essential element in skin care. If your skin's dead cells are not removed, the makeup will not sit properly on your skin and sometimes look Ashy or Cakey. After a quick facewash, towel dry and use a light-weight moisturizer to moisten ur skin depending on ur skin type.

2. Primer
I know so many makeup gurus always have said it and Yes it is so true. A primer before applying any type of foundation is a must; if you are using BB Creams i would say you can skip it but for all other foundations start with a primer for your skin type for instance Makeup Forever Step 1 Equalizers come in to tackle any type of skin issues from Oily, Dry to Acne prone etc

3. Conceal & Correct
This step is important for those with various skin issues such as redness/acne, pigmentation, dark spots, dark circles etc You need to color correct using the opposite cancels each other technique in the Color Wheel. For instance, Redness is covered by using Green corrector while Orange cancels out Bluish dark circles.  A Concealer typically yellow one must be applied over to hide more imperfections.

4. BeautyBlender
Yes guys i am not sponsored or anything, speaking out of my experience. You can really achieve an AirBrush or Flawless look by using this Amazing Innovative Sponge known as the BeautyBlender. You can almost Buff any type of product from liquid to powder into your skin and gently dab it in rolling motion across and away from your face (check Youtube videos for proper usage directions). The key is that it takes away excess product from your face so you are not loaded with unnecessary layers which is a key to a flawless makeup look.

5. Set Your Makeup
Do not skip this step, as you need all those efforts to settle down & look blended in. Use a setting spray such as Urban Decay Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray Or one of everyone's favorite MAC Fix Plus. Spray it diagonally making "X" a few inches away from your face; Keep your eyes close while u r doing its magic.

Your looks are subconsciously creating "Labels" for you!

Agree or not! Each of us are facing it everyday. The way you look has not been so important until lately. Social media has widely affected our perception of others based on milestones such as Likes, Followers etc. How you carry yourself around, the way you look, stuff you eat and even the interests that you have are all the information that the person on the other side of the computer has, to form an opinion about you. Its like portraying yourself on social media is an important part of livelihood nowadays and pictures including your selfies need to look good.

With so much emphasis on looking good; being a makeup artist, i would like to dedicate this blog to all the beauty lovers. Be it fashion, health, makeup, photography or any other inspirational blogs, with my writings i will educate my readers to look their best, feel good about themselves not just to create more followers' gang but to Not misjudged or pushed away just because of how they appear.
